Identification of commodities in Canada and selected Latin American and Caribbean Countries that could foster win-win relationship.

Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture, IICA. Study and document co-led by Cannexion.

This project represents a collation of information which allows a better understanding of potential agricultural trade between Canada and selected countries in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) in the framework of bilateral Free Trade Agreement (FTA). The countries involved in the study and with which Canada signed FTA’s, and / or are in their final state, are: Colombia, Peru, Costa Rica and Honduras. Other countries taken into account in the study were Ecuador, as it is a country with high agricultural potential and also Jamaica, as a member of the Community of Caribbean States, CARICOM, that is advancing a process of FTA with Canada.

We found a variety of opportunities to increase agri-food trade relationships between Canada and the LAC countries in this study. There is work to do, relationships to build, more markets to explore in LAC, ensuring that the products offered correspond to the characteristics, specific needs, demand and regulations in Canada.
